Founder & Manager
Since the age of 16, Tonca Brooks has been captivating the people of St. Maarten with his voice and energy, performing classics by Otis Redding and James Brown as the frontman of his first band, The AGs.
After spending several years in the Netherlands, Tonca returned to his island, married his life and business partner Maggie, and together they founded the very first recording studio in St. Maarten. Renamed today as Bronese Studio, this pioneering space became one of the first studios in the Caribbean to go digital as early as 1987.
As a committed artist, Tonca has been writing and performing conscious roots reggae since 1984, delivering music deeply rooted in social and spiritual awareness. He has released seven albums – some with his former band Tonca & Friends – and still keeps another unreleased project “on the shelf,” waiting for the right time to share it.
Alongside his career as a performer, Tonca has always maintained a strong passion for hosting and producing artists. Through Bronese Studio, he now shares his experience with a new generation, offering recording, mixing, mastering, composition, and arrangement services. Based in South Reward, the studio is today a creative hub where vintage analog heritage meets modern technology, serving music in all its forms.
Specialties: Voice, Composition, Arrangement, Production.
Musical universe: Conscious Reggae, rooted yet open to Caribbean and Latin influences.
Margaret Brooks
Founder & Manager
Conscientious, creative, and dependable, Margaret Brooks co-founded Bronese Studio—later Giant Recording Studio—with her husband Tonca in 1984, building St. Maarten’s first professional recording facility.
She stewarded the studio from fully analog in the ’80s to digital in 1987 and later to Pro Tools, managing day-to-day operations through 2002 before entrusting them to Tonca. As Managing Director of Bronese NV/Alfmar Records (1984–2003), she produced and released eight roots-reggae albums: Back Home, Jah Jah Will Unite Us, Are You Hearing Us Now?, Peace in the East, For You Only, Committed to Jah, Merry Christmas Everybody!, and St. Maarten Is Nice—with Back Home recorded at Tuff Gong (Jamaica) and the others tracked in their own studio. Since 1984, Margaret has also managed Tonca’s artist career.
Whether in music, art, photography, or editorial work, her constant aim is the same: to elevate the quality of every project she touches.
